About Us
We, of The Compassionate Friends Modesto/Riverbank Area Chapter, are one of 625 local chapters of The Compassionate Friends; these chapters are in every state of the United States plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. Our Modesto/Riverbank Area Chapter is located in the Central Valley and serves not only the cities of Modesto and Riverbank, but, such area cities as Oakdale, Escalon, Ceres, Turlock, Stevinson, Hughson, Ripon, Salida and others.
Our Modesto/Riverbank Area Chapter first met on May 14, 2009 and has met monthly ever since. As with the regular meetings of all TCF Chapters, we provide a caring environment in which bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents can work through their grief with the help of others who have "been there." Those attending our Modsto/Riverbank Area Chapter meetings (usually between 12 and 20 people) number among the over 15,000 people who attend monthly TCF chapter meetings.
Our meetings include a special candlelighting especially in remembrance of those children, grandchildren & siblings of Chapter Members & Friends with birthdays &/or anniversaries during that month &, also on behalf of all children, grandchildren & siblings of our Chapter's Members & Friends. Following the candlelighting, usually there are brief announcements, brief introductions & sharing by all who are interested in so doing, some CD bereavement journey music and a more extensive sharing by those interested in disussing certain aspects of the deep grief journey. A Resource Table - including a Lending Library, TCF Grief Support Brochures and Magazines + other supportive information - is available both before and after the meeting. Light Refreshments are available.
In between meetings, some members are available to share one-on-one with bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings (18+) via phone, e-mail and/or in person.
